Archiving takes an article out of the normal flow of your site without deleting it. It stops appearing in blog and list layouts, but it stays in the database, keeps its ID and URL, and can be brought back to Published at any time. It is the right choice for content that is finished but still worth keeping — past newsletters, superseded announcements, previous years' notices.

Visitors can still reach archived content if you give them a way in: an Archived Articles menu item lets them browse it by month and category, and archived articles remain available to Smart Search once the index is rebuilt.
