Growers
We search the whole countryside for the best fruit growers.
You can let each supplier have a page that he or she can edit. To see this in action you will need to create a user who is in the suppliers group.
Create one page in the growers category for that user and make that supplier the author of the page. That user will be able to edit his or her page.
This illustrates the use of the Edit Own permission.
A family orchard, worked by the same family for four generations.
Oranges are the main crop, alongside lemons, limes and grapefruit. Picking runs through the cooler months, and fruit reaches the shop within a day or two of coming off the tree — which is the whole reason for buying from a grower this close.
Anything unsold at the end of the week goes for juicing rather than into storage, so what is on the shelf is always from the current pick.
Watermelon, grown on open ground and cut only when it is ready.
The season is short — high summer and a few weeks either side — and the fruit does not improve after picking, so nothing is harvested early to travel. Melons come off the field in the morning and are on the shelf the same day.
Picking the right one is mostly a matter of weight and sound: heavy for its size, with a dull, hollow note when tapped. The pale patch where it sat on the ground should be cream or yellow rather than white.
