Joomla gives developers and site builders a mature, extensible platform with a clear separation between content, presentation and functionality.
Template styles and layout overrides let you change how any view is rendered without editing core files, so customisations survive updates. A single site can run multiple template styles and assign different ones to different pages.
Where a site needs behaviour Joomla does not ship with, the extension APIs — components, modules, plugins and libraries — mean you can usually extend the CMS rather than work around it. Joomla also exposes a Web Services API for headless front ends and for integrating with systems outside the site.
Technical documentation for extension developers is published at manual.joomla.org.
